“It is never too late to be what you might have been.”  -- George Eliot

It’s that time of year again and I refuse to participate. I usually don’t make New Year’s resolutions and have never kept the few I’ve made. Changing behavior just because the calendar has flipped a page is a good idea in theory, but as a human being, I find it just isn’t that easy.

I like the approach that James Clear, the author Atomic Habits presents, which is as I understand it,  to align your actions with the person that you want to be, whether it’s  a nonsmoker, a healthy person, or a published author.

Writing a Book is Transformative

Writing a book is one of the best ways to be transformed. I know this from my own experience writing four fiction and eight nonfiction books for publishers including Simon & Schuster and Penguin Random House. I’ve also edited books for numerous nonfiction authors and publishing houses.

So, I know that you will not be the same person you were once you write and finish something that you’re proud of and are ready to share with the world. That’s because it takes creativity, discipline, and persistence to do it. But the result: feeling proud, accomplished and self-empowered is well worth it.

As a book coach, I work with writers on all of this but the primary motivation behind my work is the act of transformation. I’m helping the writer transform themselves into someone who takes the ideas in their head, puts them on the page, revises and reworks them and shares them with the world.

The bigger transformation is what happens when the book they write gets into reader’s hands. The best nonfiction books take the reader on a transformational journey so that they emerge from reading it changed in a positive way. In this way, we help to heal the world.

Not only does this give the writer immense satisfaction, it gives the reader a feeling of possibility, that things can change, things can get better.

As a book coach, this work is a sacred trust between the writer and I and the page and once it’s finished, the reader. I can’t think of work that is more fulfilling for a book lover and a writer.

Author Accelerator Certification

Recently, I’ve been certified by Author Accelerator, the premiere book coaching program  as a nonfiction book coach which means that I can now take my mission to help writers to an even deeper level. That’s because I can now work with writers using some of the tools developed by Jennie Nash, the founder of Author Accelerator.

For 2026, I’m offering the Mini Blueprint created by Jennie Nash, which is a highly effective tool to get the book out of your head and onto one page for $299. This includes one hour of 1:1 book coaching with me. You'll be amazed at the amount of clarity you'll have after doing this.

In addition, I’m offering four packages:

1.      The Roadmap which uses the full Blueprint from Blueprint for a Nonfiction Book by Jennie Nash, to envision, plan and plot your nonfiction book.

2.      The Proposal which helps you create a book proposal that sells based on Blueprint for a Nonfiction Book.

3.       The Pitch which will help you write a query letter, target agents and publishers that are right for you book and develop a pitch strategy.

4.      The Manuscript, a combination of book coaching and developmental editing to get your book in tip-top shape before submitting it for publication or to self-publish.
