“Ideas are in the air,” Henry Ford, the founder of the Ford Motor Company once said. When you’re ready to write your natural health self-help book, this is a good thing. In the beginning you want as many viable ideas as possible.
But after the fun of brainstorming ideas and even titles for the book you want to write, the big question that you need to ask yourself is:
Does your book idea solve a problem or a pain point for your ideal reader, whether it’s anxiety, unhappiness, diabetes, heart disease or something else.
Here are a few clues as to whether the idea you have can be an actual book.
Your book idea is:
1. Connected to your area of expertise. For example, if you’re a therapist or an integrative health practitioner, your idea should be grounded in the positive work you do with clients. You need to be an authority on the subject matter, whatever it is.
2. Based on a method or plan that you use with clients or patients that has a positive impact. This means that when the people you treat follow your method or plan, they get measurable results. They feel better in either mind, body or spirit, or maybe all three. The results are also replicable.
If you’re an herbalist, for example, your method to treat anxiety could include things like specific supplements and herbs, mindset changes, meditation and yoga. My book Natural Remedies for Mental and Emotional Health (Inner Traditions) with herbalist Brigitte Mars features all of these modalities.
3. Transformational for the reader. Your book takes your ideal reader from Point A (the problem) to Point B (the solution). By the time that readers finish reading your book and following the steps of your method, they are, in some way, transformed. They will feel or see things differently.
