Driving in Boston vs. NYC—and Why Writing a Natural Health Book Without a Roadmap Will Leave You Lost

Writing a book is a lot like driving in a new city. And I know from experience—I'm a Boston University graduate. Boston is an incredible college town, but when it comes to roads? It’s infamous for its confusing, tangled layout.

Many of Boston’s streets were laid out before city planning was a thing—based on old cow paths and colonial trails. The result? Twisting, turning roads, unexpected one-ways, and roundabouts that can send even locals in circles. A GPS is helpful—but even that won't always save you.

Compare that to New York City, where the streets (especially in Manhattan) follow a grid. You know that after 3rd Avenue comes 4th. Uptown is north, downtown is south. The structure helps you navigate—even if you’re new to the city. I used to live on Long Island, so at one point I was, but I still managed to get around town easily.

Writing a natural health or wellness book is no different. Many natural health experts come to me after they’ve already started writing—and they’re completely stuck. Why? Because they didn’t start with a roadmap.

Before you begin writing, especially if you’re sharing your method or helping readers solve a specific health problem, you need three key elements:

  1. A crystal-clear idea

  2. Your unique method or step-by-step approach

  3. A well-organized Table of Contents

Without these, it’s easy to lose your way. Confusion, overwhelm, and abandoned drafts are common detours.

If you’re feeling lost on your book journey—even if you’ve already started—I can help you get back on track and reach your destination with clarity and confidence.
